Entering its 40th season, the FSAF Opera and Musical Theatre Program is an intensive, two-week training opportunity designed primarily for young singers who are pursuing careers as classical performers. Each student is cast in a minimum of two opera or musical theater scenes, and receives their casting assignments prior to the beginning of the program. During the course of the festival, students participate in vocal coachings and lessons, master classes and staging rehearsals, and perform in a fully costumed scenes production at the end of the two weeks. Additional concerts and performances take place throughout the festival. Students are expected to arrive at the festival with music learned, and have the opportunity to study with the dynamic FSAF faculty each day.
The first week includes:
“The quality of the faculty and my fellow singers, paired with the beautiful Alaska scenery and the plethora of performance opportunities packed into two weeks made it a truly rewarding and unique experience; I came back for a second year and enjoyed it even more the second time!”
" I finished FSAF with a new approach to singing and acting in musicals and operas. The connections and friendships you make in this festival are life long. This is a challenging, fun, and transformative program that is perfect for singers of all ages and places in their vocal journey."

"I attended the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival for over 30 years. It was life changing for me. I began taking musical theatre and cabaret, working with wonderful artists like Chris Calloway and then joined the opera workshop program working with Guest Artists, Kathryn Harvey, Bob McCoy, Michael Pinkerton, Carolyn Hague and Louise McClelland. Each opportunity to sing and perform stretched me and provided tremendous growth as an artist."
The faculty were outstanding and I enjoyed having personalized attention from the teachers and coaches. Our days were filled to the brim with coachings, lessons, masterclasses, and rehearsals as we learned and polished opera and musical theater scenes that were performed at the end of the two-week festival. I learned a lot and enjoyed all the performance opportunities, but perhaps the best part of the program were the friendships made along the way with the other performers. It was an amazing two weeks filled with lots of music and laughter!
