This oil class is open to beginning students. The lessons are presented in such a way that everyone can follow along and find information and success for their own level of proficiency. We cover color theory, various techniques, subject matter, and use of mediums, etc.

1.) List of Paints: I use mostly Graham Paints, Michael Harding and Gamblin pigments. I
suggest using Graham...they are excellent and at a good price. Try not to use a student grade
pigment...you get what you pay for! I have a list of colors below that I use...you can bring some
of your own colors that can be used as a substitute.
*For Beginning Class get the ones with the (*).
*Titanium White...I suggest a larger tube...you go through white much faster than the others.
*Azo Yellow or Cad. Yellow light
Yellow Ochre
*Ultramarine Blue
*Transparent Iron Red Oxide
*Napthol Red or Cad. Red light
Dioxazine Purple
Virian
Other colors I sometimes use but not necessary for class:
Cerulean Blue
Sap Green
Phthalo blue
Cad. Orange
Alizarin Crimson
2.) 6 canvas panels or stretched canvas 8x10” or 9x12”
3.)Brushes: I use all types of brushes, but I mostly use synthetic ones that are easy to clean and
to use for some of the exercises we’ll be doing. You are more than welcome to bring your
brushes.
For the Synthetic brushes I use the Silver Brand (1901) or Connoisseur Brand...there are many
great brushes out there, these are just a suggestion, so get what works for you.

4.)Odorless Mineral Spirits...buy only artist quality spirits! Gamosol, Turpenoid or Mona Lisa
work well. You will need enough to thin paints and to help clean your brushes. 32oz usually
does the job to start with.
5.) A Silicoil or other covered solvent container to use for thinning paints and cleaning your
brushes
6.)Palette knife, medium size
7.)Table top easel...wood or metal
8.) Disposable or reusable palette to mix paints
9.)Roll of Paper Towels
10.)Some small plastic cups for Medium...like the ones you get at drive thru with
